An Overview of the Improved iPod Nano

With the news of the new iPhone 4S on October 5th 2011, Apple has also decided to release an upgrade to the iPod Nano. Even though it is quite similar in size to the iPod Shuffle, there are noticeable differences between the two. The specifications for the improved iPod Nano shows that the wheel has been removed.

Instead of the wheel, Apple has redesigned the Nano with a multi-touch surface that is present in the iPod Touch. The company has also decided to reduce the size of this mp3 player by 0.66 inches. There is now a red version of the this device that someone can purchase.

The biggest change to its design is the interface. As this player is great for someone to workout with, it has been redesigned to look like a watch. With an increase in the amount of people becoming active and working out, Apple has decided to improve the features of this music player so it can be used in a fitness setting.

These fitness features include the ability to track a cardio workout that is completed using built-in sensors. The player can also be hooked up to a machine that is Nike+ iPod-compatible while someone is working out. After the workout, a user will have access to the Nike+ website where he can monitor his workout goals and fitness progress.

There have also been a release of faces that are virtual watches. Therefore, the user can change the face of the virtual watch according to his preference. The virtual watch faces are available in a lot of popular styles such as the classic Mickey Mouse watch. Analog and digital watch faces are also available and in total at least 18 watch faces are offered.

One thing that has not changed about the iPod Nano is the amount of colors that it can be purchased in. These include six different colors such as blue, pink, black and silver.

However, the owner of this iPod model will need to purchase a band for the wrist from a vendor such as Luntatik that has created a line of watch wristbands for the iPod Nano that start from $40. The lowest amount that these players can be purchased for is $130 for the 8GB model.
